Trip to the Bronte Parsonage

Since our class was studying Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, we took a trip to Haworth to discover more facts about her life and home area. We had a tour round the Parsonage, explored Haworth and had a talk discussing Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. It was an amazing trip and truly worth visiting if you are interested in the history or the Bronte's novels.

The weather made this day, it was beautiful and glorious. We had a tour round the museum and saw where the Bronte's wrote their novels. It was amazing to see where great writers started their work and we found out that they sat around a table Charlotte, Emily and Anne helping each other and getting through their novels. For me, this building and town seems to be a place of imagination, discovery and individuality.

We drove past the Moors and it was lovely to see them and discuss how the Bronte's spent their childhood walking and playing on them. For me, the Moors seem to be a place where the Bronte's could express themselves and find their identity and belonging in society. The Moors conveys how the Bronte's could be free and had no constraints from others.

I am not religious myself but I am fascinated by the architecture of Churches and knowing the history about them. Clearly, Patrick Bronte seem to be a Reverend who loved his community and children... he would be a person I would have liked to have met... of course alongside with the Bronte sisters.

The building is beautiful and I enjoyed finding out about what they do in the community and how they always seem to reference the Bronte's in their events. It is amazing how they still incorporate the history of this area into daily lives because many places in Britain now forget what an amazing history the town/area had. I feel we should appreciate our history because to an extent it shapes the way everything is and sometimes you never know a famous person might have lived or visited where you live today.

Overall, the trip to Haworth was an exciting and knowledgable experience... it has made me appreciate literature more and how precious it is to the world. Since I have only read Villette, The Professor and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, I want to read the other works of Emily and Anne Bronte... I am eager to read Wuthering Heights and Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

  1. Thanks for submitting it! This account of your class's trip to the Parsonage would be improved, I think, if you added a few lines about the talk (whether it was useful or relevant to your studies) and perhaps a little something about how the rest of the class reacted. Could you give your name and year group? School? All best

    1. Thank you for responding to my blog post, I would recommend all schools visiting Haworth if they are studying the Bronte's novels because it gives the students an insight of the writers life and how their experiences are reflected in their novels.

  2. Hi, I could have reviewed the Parsonage more but I wanted to base it on my opinion and life of the Brontes. The class all enjoyed the trip and found it useful for our exam on Jane Eyre. For the talk, we all discussed both novels and we debated what the writers were intending and asking questions about the books. I think the talk could have been better if the speaker did a PowerPoint, other than that it was excellent. :)
